Bobbi Brown's Foundation Test

Foundation is a rather important aspect of makeup. It helps to hide redness, and dark spots, as well as even out the skin tone, creating a fresh canvas to build the rest of your makeup.
This is a simple test to figure out if your foundation suits you.
Apply a swipe of it on your cheek. Then grab a small mirror and step outside into completely natural light. Look to see if the foundation is visible. If it is hard to see on your face, your foundation works. If the swipe is obvious and visible, it's time to get a new foundation.

Choosing The Right Foundation

Oily Skin:
The best thing to look out for is a foundation with an oil-free formula. To even out redness and blotching on your skin, get the heavy formula foundation. If you wear moisturizer, use a foundation with a mattifying formula, because you don't want your face to look greasy.
Normal To Dry Skin:
Get a stick foundation or a creamy liquid foundation. When in hot, humid weather, using a liquid infused formula will make your skin look and feel better. If your skin feels dry, use a slightly heavier moisturizer.

Mini Haul (April 11th) feat. Tony Moly

Yesterday my friend Tatiana and I went to the most popular shopping destination in Singapore, Bugis Street. As usual, it was super crowded. (Even though it was a weekday and I assumed there would be less people. ) I got these items, and their total cost DID NOT exceed $10 ! Isn't that amazing ? I'm incredibly proud of myself for scoring these awesome deals. The stores at which I got these items were all located in a small section within Bugis Street, named K-Street, the "K" stands for Korean.

Let me give you a quick introduction to what "K-Street" is all about.
In K-street, some stores sell products from Korea (makeup, shoes) while others sell products inspired by the Korean style (clothes, bags)

Tony Moly is a very famous makeup brand in Korea, it is extremely popular with teenagers and adults. Hence the reason why I've always wanted to try their products.
I found a store in K-Street doing a clearance sale on some makeup products, and this Tony Moly product was on a 40% discount.Which is incredible, because the final price came up to $6.50. I couldn't believe it because Tony Moly products are slightly pricey in Singapore due to it originating from Korea, but I managed to get this at such a low price point and huge discount.
I'm so excited to try this out, be sure to check out my review on this product which will be up really soon.

Moving on, the following 3 items are all from the same store, also in K-Street. Tatiana and I were walking by when we saw this huge basket with tons and tons of jewelry, and the lady at the store told us they were having a clearance sale, so everything in that huge basket are a dollar each.So we got really excited and spent a while looking through all the jewelry. And in the end, I picked out these 3 pieces.

Remember my previous post (http://allforcyan.blogspot.sg/2013/04/a-tiny-little-bow.html) where I talked about that silver bow ring I got from Forever 21? Well, after I got the it, I complained about how it's such a pity that Forever 21 didn't produce a gold version.
And then I found this gold ring in K-Street, and it's the exact same design as the silver Forever 21 bow ring, but in GOLD !! I was about to freak out over it, but I kept it cool, because there were other people around and that would be so embarrasing. I can't believe I found this tiny ring in that huge basket. Wait, I've got the story wrong. TATIANA was the one who found it, so thank you Tatiana if you're reading this !!

The second piece I got from the huge basket is this bunny necklace, it's so cute and I've been getting really into cute bunnies lately because I think they're so adorable, and when I look at them I SMILE. I bet you're going like: "Cyan why would you smile at bunny necklaces ??"  I don't know why, it's just one of those weird things I do sometimes :D

The last thing I got is this faux pearl hair clip. I use this to create a really simple hairstyle, I take 2 pieces of hair from the side and then I clip them to the back with this hair clip. Super easy for when I wanna look put together when I'm in a rush for something and my hair's in a mess.

Jan/Feb 2013 Mega Haul (OPI, Baby Lips, Bath And Body Works)

I know it's a little bit late for me to post this since it's almost April, but I thought I should show you some things I bought in January and February.

So. Let's get started !!

I got a couple of nail polishes from the Nicole by OPI line.

The one on the left is called Love Your Life, it's a glitter polish with tiny little hearts in it, which looks extremely pretty when you layer it over a different nail colour. One day, I painted my nails with the colour on the right (I've Got The Power) then painted a layer of Love Your Life glitter over. Surprisingly, I really liked the result. I thought pink and glitter and hearts would be a little too much. But it actually looked pretty good.

If you have these colours too, try out this nail look. YOU'LL LOVE IT ;)

I've never bought lip products from Etude House before. Correction: I've never bought much products from Etude House. Don't get me wrong, this is a wonderful brand and I love it, but products from Etude House are slightly expensive in Singapore. So I can only treat myself a little something from the store once in awhile.

I got one of the Apricot Stick lipbalms in the shade #01 Sweet Grape and I've been really enjoying it, it's slightly tinted and very moisturizing. And it smells soooo good. I'm getting a little tempted to taste it, but I know it's not good for my health. LOL.

NEXT UP !!!! BABY LIPS >>>>>>

Recently, I have become addicted to Maybelline's Baby Lips. They are sooo moisturizing, they smell sooo good, and I their cute packaging. Speaking of packaging, anyone else finds it real similar to the Lip Smackers ?? Hmmm....

But I gotta say, It's a real pity that Maybelline has a different version of Baby Lips for Asia. For those of who do not know about this, Maybelline produces 2 different versions of Baby Lips. One for Asia, and one for the United States and the United Kingdom.
I've always wanted to get the UK and US version cos I find that they are wayyyyy better, they have more flavours and some are tinted. However the Asian version is NOT tinted and have less flavours.

WAIT. HOLD THE PHONE. I have wonderful news ! I have managed to get my hands on the UK and US version Baby Lips ! I will be receiving it real soon and of course, I HAVE to do a blog post on it ;)

Another lip product, this one's from Lipice. It's okay, I guess. Not too fantastic, but serves it's purpose, just something for me to get by on.

Another great brand that isn't available in Singapore: Bath And Body Works. I've always wanted to try out their widely raved hand sanitizers, and I finally managed to get my hands on a couple of these, They are the Confetti Cake scent. And you guessed it, it smells like birthday cake. I have this really crazy thing about me: I hate eating cake, but I LOVE the smell of cake. That is so weird. But let's get back to the product. It really IS as good as they say it is, it doesn't leave a sticky texture on your hands, and it smells really wonderful.

Everything at Bath And Body Works smells very very good, their candles, their body mists, and especially their hand sanitizers. Which is why I love their brand so much, and I find it a complete tragedy they do not have an outlet in Singapore. Because I will go totally insane in the store and buy everything, a teeny bit of exaggeration there... haha.

If you have not tried Bath And Body Works hand sanitizers, please go try them. And besides Confetti Cake, they have a bunch of other great scents too.
One year, during Halloween, they came out with Candy Corn, and yes ! It totally smells like Candy Corn, and I've heard many people talk about how much they love it.
So, if you have a Bath And Body Works store near you, or if you can get your hands on some of their products, you should DEFINITELY try it out ;)

This is the end of my Jan/Feb 2013 Mega Haul, the BEAUTY portion ! I will be back real soon with the FASHION portion ~

November Favourites 2012

These are the beauty products I've used practically everyday this November.

HD Primer by MAKE UP FOR EVER
This is my first time using a Make Up For Ever product, and I am so in love with it. This minimizes pores and prepares your skin for makeup. It holds in my face powder really well and also helps smoothen out my skin.

Fortifying Vitamin Lotion by Nicole Miller (via Melalauca)
I've had this for a really long time, and I've only just started using it. I've noticed that starting this November, my skin gets really dry during the night time. So I've kinda been using it as a moisturizer/night cream. And by using this, I've noticed a huge difference in the dryness of my skin.

SPF15 Original Foundation by bareMinerals
I feel that this helps to mattify my skin, and control my oil. Just started using this, and I really wanted to try this as I know people personally as well as in the blog-o-sphere who swear by this. They say its an amazing product, I tried it, and I couldn't agree more.
In the Sephora store in Singapore, the bareMinerals counter has a large display of colour variation for this foundation, so you'll definitely find a colour that suits your skin tone.

Pink Guava Oil Control Film by Clean&Clear
I've used the original oil control film by this brand, the one in the blue packaging.
But this is my first time trying out the pink guava, and I really like it ! It has a really nice scent, it absorbs all the oil from my face really well, and the films are pink in colour !
Okay, I gotta admit, I initially got this because of the colour of the packaging and the films (I love pink! ), but I ended up really liking the scent too.

Cocoa Butter Formula Dark Chocolate & Peppermint Lip Butter by Palmer's
I get chapped lips really often, and this is my favourite lip butter.
I've used it for a really long time. And it does a great job at healing my lips.

Baby Lips in Soothing Cherry by MAYBELLINE
I've mentioned that I love the Cocoa Butter Formula Lip Butter, but I wanted to try this just because I didn't want to miss out on something better. Does this make sense?
Really love this too. And what I've done is that I've alternated between using this and the Cocoa Butter Formula one. I use that one on Mondays, Wednesday, Fridays, Sundays. And I use this on the other days in between.

Cotton Candy Petite Parfum by Rituelle via Forever New
Sorry if it doesn't show up quite as clearly in the photo :(

My favourite perfume. I love cotton candy, so this is like the perfect perfume for me.

Face It Radiance Concealer Dual Veil by THE FACE SHOP
Been using this concealer for quite a while now, it's really inexpensive and does an amazing job at covering my under eye circles, and any other imperfections.
Highly recommend this for anyone looking for a good concealer at a lower price point.

So that's it for the BEAUTY part of my November Favourites !
FASHION part is coming real soon !
So is the Arm Candy Tutorial !

Korea Trip: Part 1 (Beauty Haul)

I had a total of 290,000 won and the Beauty and Fashion Hauls are 90% of the things I bought, the other 10% consists of food and the occasional Starbucks Iced Americano (my favourite). Caffeine addict much ? Haha. In truth, I needed my coffee as I had to wake up at 7.30am KST (6.30am Singapore time) every morning and I didn't want to be yawning throughout the day.
So this is the Beauty Haul.

I got Nail Polish by THE FACE SHOP at 1,000 won each. Around $1.50 SGD. I got all solid colours because, being the very first colours of polish I own, I wanted to have some nice basics.
This kind of basics are essential in nail polish collections as they are very easy matching, and they'll go very well with most of the things you wear, so you won't have to put much thought into how you're gonna match your clothes with your nails.

Can't wait to try out this colour. Oh! I got my nails done after I got back to Singapore because my previous manicure was all chipped, perhaps I was kinda rough with my nails when I was in Korea.

I got this nude shade because I've been looking for something that'll blend in to my fingers and make it seem like I don't have any polish on. Really excited about this.

A really pretty light pink shade. Pink is my favourite colour, so I'm pretty such I'll get alot of wear out of this.

I got this Apple Intensive Moisture Hand & Nail Cream by FARMSTAY because I was drawn to the packaging. It looked like something I would find in Sephora, due to the American-style packaging. But I tried it when I got home, and I loved it. Absolutely no regrets. It smelled like real apples, and it did not feel the least bit oily. Oh, and this was 3,000 won. About $3.50 SGD.

As this is not a very well known brand, you can check out their website here: www.myungincos.com

Then I got this Rice Ceramide Moisture Emulsion by THE FACE SHOP, because I had noticed my skin feeling a bit dry lately, so I got this to see if it could turn the situation around.
This is 4,400 won. About $4.90 SGD.

Rich Hand - Hand & Cuticle Duo by THE FACE SHOP. This was slightly more expensive than the other hand creams I got. It was 6,900 won. About $7.40 SGD. This was more of a balm, rather than a cream formula.

A close-up of the information in case you're interested.

Rich Hand - Hand & Foot Total Treatment by THE FACE SHOP.
This was basically the same thing as the one above, the Hand & Cuticle Duo. Except you can use this on the foot as opposed to the other one which is for the hands only.
This was more creamy than the other one.
This was also 6,900 won. About $7.40 SGD. It's the same price as the other one. (Hand & Cuticle Duo)

A close-up.

These two are from the same line, RICH HAND, produced by THE FACE SHOP.

Also got this Cherry Blossom Hair Mist by THE FACE SHOP. In love with the smell. It's not too overwhelming, which is great because you don't want to walk around smelling like a tree. As they say, too much of something is never good. Oh, I almost forgot. This was 4,400 won. About $4.90 SGD.

A close-up. It just says, Cherry Blossom Clear Hair Mist.

Pink Peach Hand Essence by WELCOS. Love the peach scent. Really easily absorbant. Non-greasy. And a great price. This was 3,000 won. About $3.50 SGD.

And this isn't a well-known brand, you can check out their website here: www.welcos.co.kr

I ran out of make-up removal tissue so I got this Herb Day Cleansing Tissue by THE FACE SHOP. It has 70 sheets. Which is great quantity when it was only 3,900 won. About $4.40 SGD.

So this was all the beauty items I bought in Korea. Stay tuned for the next part of my Korea Trip series, the Fashion Haul.
