My Advice On Shopping + Helpful Tips !

Hello everyone, today I will be talking about one of my favourite subjects, SHOPPING.
I can't deny my love for shopping, on a bad day (or any day, actually) walking into a store makes me feel ten times better. And when I find some good deals or things I really like, I feel as though I've won the lottery, the angels start singing in my head, and sometimes I do a victory cheer or even a happy dance. I know this sounds so crazy, it's just that I really, really love shopping.

However, sometimes after I get home and the excitement has died down a little, I realise that I bought the item on impulse, I just buy it to experience that joy and to make myself feel better, even though it might not be something I actually need. I've made so many impulse buys in the past, and I absolutely regret having done so. Due to the fact that those aren't the clothes I need, or I probably already have something very similar to it, there comes the additional trouble of deciding what to do with it, often times these impulse buys just end up in the unwanted pile. What a waste of money !

Have you encountered a situation like this? If so, here are some tips on how to become a smart and savvy shopper, and how to avoid impulse buys.

Make a list.

In this first step you have to know what you have in your closet, be sure to go through EVERYTHING and make a list of the things you don't need any more of. For example, if you already have some great jeans that you love, put it down on a list to remind yourself that you probably do not need anymore of those items. After creating the list, keep it in your bag when you go shopping, and before purchasing something be sure to check the list, so you don't get something you don't need. If the item is written on the list, put it back on the rack, and walk out the store !

Set a budget, and stick to it !

If you have a problem with over-spending just like I do, be sure to set a budget before going shopping. I often end up regretting having spent too much money because I couldn't resist getting all those cute clothes I saw. However since I've started giving myself budgets for shopping trips, I find it easier to keep within the limit.

Go shopping with a friend who can help you resist your urges

I like to go shopping with my friends because they can help talk me out of buying something that I don't need, they also help me to stay focused and not get sucked into sales where I feel like I have to buy all the good deals because sales are my weakness, I just can't resist deals, and clearance sales, even better !

Avoid sales

Like I've just mentioned, sales are terrible for me. I get urge to peruse EVERYTHING until I find a good deal. And when I've found a good deal, I challenge myself to find another good deal, and so on.
If you are like me, it is better for us to avoid sales. If you see a sign with 50% off or even 70% off, turn around and walk in the other direction, trust me I know how excruciating that is, how does ANYONE walk away from a 70% OFF SALE ??

But I assure you, in the long run you will feel happy having made the right decision to walk away from the sales.

Do not focus too much on trends

My mother always tells me: "Trends will pass. Get clothes with designs that will last."

Classic pieces and essentials are things that will always look great, and most often these are the things that won't have to get rid of. It is absolutely fine to dabble in trends, but not too much. Trends fade and past. and all of a sudden, that item won't be "in" anymore,  you'll start wearing it less, and eventually you'll forget about it. I know that it's hard to believe, but trust me, this is what I've learnt from when I was completely obsessed with following trends. Try not to become like me, because you'll end up with a huge pile of unwanted clothes.

This is the end of the post, I hope you found these tips helpful. I will be doing more posts like this is the future, so be sure to check them out if you liked this post. Thank you for reading and I will talk to you in my next post !

Style Inspiration: Lily Collins

Without a doubt, Lily Collins is one of my favorite actresses as of current. Although I have to admit that this is partly due to the fact that she plays the lead character of my favorite series, The Mortal Instruments. Nowadays, when fashion trends greatly influence what society wears, individuality is elusive. However, I find that it prevails in Lily, her style is casual but manages to remain very put together as well as polished. It's the kind of style that you can just throw on without a second thought, and you'll look amazing. Isn't that what we all hope to achieve? Effortlessly yet looking good. And that is what sparked off this Style Inspiration post.

I like how her style mostly involves a pair of skinnies. Which is great, because everyone owns pants as compared to designer bags which not everybody can afford. This makes it so easy to recreate her looks because she makes use of really basic pieces that everyone has in their closet. I've noticed that she likes to throw some nice jackets/coats over basic pieces such as the skinnies and tanks/t-shirts.

Something I like to look out for when recreating celebrity outfits is practicality. Because I'm a normal person with a normal job and a normal life, it won't be feasible for me to go about everyday life in a structured dress that cost $500 as well as sky-high stilettos. It just doesn't make sense because I'll have to take the bus or the train, I'm pretty sure my feet will be aching at the end of the day, and what if I spill coffee or rip the dress on a sharp object when going about my job? It's just not practical for a normal person like me.

However, Lily's style is so much more practical, functional, and also very comfortable. I look forward to trying out her style because I feel that it's suitable for normal people like me who can't really afford too many nice designer stuff, and would rather wear an outfit that is comfortable and practical. I don't know about you, but sometimes I find it hard to dress comfortably and look stylish at the same time.
Lily's style is the perfect embodiment of that, her outfits look comfortable, and she looks amazing !
And that is why my style inspiration is Lily Collins.

I'm Going To FIDe Fashion Week + New Loves !

Hi guys !! I'm starting this post by sharing some items I have been obsessing over these days, they're recent purchases and I felt that it would be fun to share with you guys what I've been loving recently !

1. Mint green Balenciaga dupe from TWISTPOLKA

This is a gorgeous new addition to my handbag collection, I fell in love with the bright colour and knew it would be perfect for adding a pop of colour to my outfits. Although most people are not fans of designer dupes, I feel that it's okay to get a designer dupe as it is a lot more affordable compared to the actual brand.

2. IPad Mini case from TYPO

I absolutely had to get this case as it's one of my favourite quotes, and it's a really unique and pretty design.

For the next part of my post I have a huge announcement to make ! (You probably already know from the title, but let's just pretend for a moment :) )

I'M GOING TO FIDE FASHION WEEK !!

I got an invite to the show from the wonderful Willabelle from Pale Division. I am so happy and thankful for this wonderful opportunity, I never imagined that I, Cyan Chng, would ever be able to attend Fashion Week. It's going to be a huge event and there's gonna be so many designers, and I am so honoured to be able to go and be a part of it. And I will definitely be sharing my whole Fashion Week experience here on my blog, so please keep a lookout for that.

Summer Haul: Clothing, Accesories + more ! (Forever 21, Cotton On, Sephora)

HEY GUYS !!! Today I am back with another haul for y'all ! You ready ? Got your seat belts on ? Got your Slurpee? (Just kidding, I'm actually drinking a green apple Slurpee right now, and it's SUPER DUPER YUMMY !!)

First place I went to was Sephora

I got this from Sephora, it's a mini palette. But I didn't purchase this, it was my birthday yesterday so Sephora gave this to me as a birthday gift.

It has 4 eyeshadow colours, really pretty neutrals. 2 lip glosses, as you can see I've already used some. And a blush. I will be doing a review on this, be sure to check it out ;)

Next, I went to Forever 21. They were having a sale, but sadly none of the items I got were on sale :(

I got this pair of really pretty sky blue/pastel high-waisted shorts. This is the first pair of shorts I've ever purchased at Forever 21. I've always wanted to get some shorts from there, but they are kinda pricey for shorts, so I never bought any. But since it was my birthday yesterday, I decided to give myself a little treat.

This is what they look like on the back. No crazy pocketing. Because you guys already know that I'm not a really big fan of crazy pocketing.

Spikes instead of the usual studs

I got a tote bag to put my school books and other random knick-knacks. I think it's super cute and I LOVE that camera ! And it says SMILE ~

And surprise surprise, Cyan got more bows. These are black lace bows and they're super adorable <33 You guys know I am CRAZY about bows. Everything that's a bow, I just gravitate towards. Oh ! And this was $3, super inexpensive.

QUICK TIP TIME ! Whenever you're shopping for accessories at Forever 21, look out for this kind of pink price tags, items with the pink price tag only cost $3 !

Then I headed over to Cotton On, where they were having the CRAZIEST sale !

I got this pair of floral shorts. I've been looking out for floral shorts for a very long time, and I never found a pair I really like. So I walked into Cotton On and when I saw this pair, a beam of white light shone on it and magical music started playing. Just kidding, I just fell in love with it. And I knew that this is it, the perfect pair of floral shorts for me. AND IT WAS THE LAST PAIR !! AND IN MY SIZE !!! Tell me this isn't meant to be !
Shortsies, thank you for waiting for me !

THIS is what it looks like on the b-b-b-back ! No crazy pocketing ! I get the feeling I'm gonna wear it so much this summer. Forget summer, I'm gonna wear it THE WHOLE YEAR !

Price tag ! $29.95

I also got this sleeveless tank top ! It has flowers on it and it was ON SALEEEEE ! FOR $10 !!
I know, I know, the price is out of this world !!

It was originally $24.95 and I got it for $10 ! SCOREEEEE

Then I got this denim circle skirt ! I've been on the lookout for something like that ever since I saw something like that in the Kendall & Kylie Collection for Pacsun. We don't have a Pacsun in Singapore and that's a real pity *grabs a Kleenex*

It's $19.95 by the way, in case this photo isn't clear enough...

That is all I bought at the retail stores. But this is not the end of this haul, I have a couple more items I ordered online from Cotton On.

I got this pair of black crochet shoes from Cotton On at the most incredible price of $10. I can't wait to wear it with denim shorts and pretty highwaisted skirts.

My school bag broke, so I needed a replacement and I found this online at $15, so of course I had to grab it. It's the grey marle material with brown leather accents, and I thought that would look really cute for school. Oh ! This is from Cotton On too. They have a few other designs for this, a denim one and a camo one.

That is all I have for you in this haul ! I hope you enjoyed reading it.

I will talk to you soon. Love, Cyan

Spring Accessories & Fashion Haul 2 (Forever 21, H&M, Cotton On, OhMySmoothies + more !)

I have a collective fashion haul for you guys today, filled with purchases I made from the past few weeks which I gathered into one big haul. I went to Cotton On, my favourite online store OhMySmoothies and a local boutique !

Starting with the 3 accessories that I got !

I realised my wardrobe was severely lacking in belts, in fact, I had no belts at all. So I decided to go get some. I found 3 belts that I really love. A chocolate-brown crochet belt from Forever 21, a black reptile print one from H&M, and a tan braided/weaved belt which I got for free at a local boutique when I made my purchase of a skirt, that I will show you further down this post.

And now for the clothes I got ! The first place I went to was Cotton On. No surprise there, in almost all my hauls, there'll definitely be something from Cotton On because I really love their brand. I feel that it's kinda Brandy Melville-ish, but in a good way. As we do not have any Brandy Melville outlets in Singapore, Cotton On is the next best alternative.

My new favourite shirt. It has these really cool Greek symbols that not many people would appreciate hence the reason why I was drawn to it, it's very unique. I've got a thing for Greek symbols which is why I wanna go to colleges with Greek sororities, as seen in the movies The House Bunny and Sydney White.

As many of you already know, I am crazy about bows and I think they're the cutest things ever ! So when I saw this top, I was like: "I have to get this ! This is so me !" I was completely flipping out right there in the store.

Next up are the items I ordered from my favourite online store OhMySmoothies !

I got this Topshop inspired DWEEB top at the rockin price of $8 when they were having a sale, it's a very trendy design and such a pretty shade of pink ! SCOREEEE ~
I've got so many ideas planned out for how I'm gonna wear this top, this bright colour is perfect for  spring and pairing it with highwaisted skirts and denim shorts will make cutest outfits !

I also got these 2 velvet skirts from the store, one in royal purple and one in oxblood. I got these skirts a while back, but strangely, I never included them in my previous haul. So I decided to include them in today's haul :D They're super soft and comfy, and wonderful quality. They can be dressed down with flowy chiffon tops and sneakers, or dressed up with a statement necklace and some heels. I'm definitely gonna get a lot of wear out of them.

I apologise for the weird quality in the photos of the skirts, velvet always ends up looking very weird in my camera.

Those are all the items I ordered from OhMySmoothies. Moving on to the purchases I made at locl boutique I recently discovered.

I love this top because it's in a very pretty and girly shade of pink, and has a very nice fit. It's a very casual tee for going to school, going out with friends or even going to the beach,

I realised I do not own single pair of black shorts so I decided to grab this. Black shorts are THE shorts everyone should own, they're very versatile and they go with EVERYTHING. I like the small rippings on the edges of these shorts, they make the shorts look even more casual. Good for the days when I just don't feel like dressing up and wanna dress in something that's non-fussy for a change, which is almost everyday in my life.

I got this skirt because it reminded me of something Bethany Mota would wear. I love Beth, she's one of my biggest inspirations and she's the one who helped me reinvent my style. (Blog post will be up real soon.) The skirt also came with the tan weaved/braided belt. So I got this set of skirt and belt for the amazing price of $12.90.

I really love anchors too. I have an anchor-spiked shoe, an anchor top, even an anchor necklace.

That is all the clothes I got in this haul !
But WAIT UP ! HOLD THE PHONE ! I also got some bags recently

Speaking of bags, I will be doing my very first What's In My Bag video really soon ! It will be uploaded on my YouTube channel http://www.youtube.com/user/allforcyan, so do subscribe to me !

That is all for this haul ! (That totally rhymed) I will be back with more hauls and more fun blog posts very very soon !

Love, Cyan
